Artur Rojek

taken by Weronika! This is a short bio of Artur Rojek. When you're done, you can jump to the icon page, or read more about Przemek Myszor, Jacek Kuderski, Wojtek Powaga, or Wojciech "Lala" Kuderski.

Artur Rojek (b. on May 6, 1972), also known by his nickname "Rojas", started what would later become Myslovitz in 1992. He was 20 years old and wasn't much good at the guitar at the time. Like several other members of the band, he didn't go to school to learn music. It's hard to believe that a person with such musical talent and creativity started out all wet. He was previously a junior swimming champion and then a swim teacher for children before trying his hand at music. It was quite a career change!

Within Myslovitz, Artur is the lead man. He sings lead vocals and plays the guitar. Despite once being described as "kind of ugly", the general public seems to respectfully disagree! He is the most popular of all the members of Myslovitz.

That's one lovely hand, if I do say so.

Artur also had another group (short-term project), founded in 1998, called Lenny Valentino. The group was the brainchid of him and his friend Mietall Waluś of Polish group Negatyw. By 2001, the lineup of Lenny Valentino had grown to five and was a mix of three popular Polish groups: Myslovitz (Rojas - vocals, guitar), Negatyw (Waluś - bass), and Ścianka (Jacek Lachowicz - keyboards, Maciej Cieślak - guitar, Arkadiusz Kowalczyk - percussion). In fact, only one person from Ścianka wasn't in Lenny Valentino! The end result was an eccentric sound that was both all and none of the three groups. To date, the group has only one album: Uwaga! Jedzie tramwaj! or "Warning! Train's coming!" It's a short album, but it's quite an experience. Never difficult to listen to, the album has an almost creepy atmosphere that I like to describe as "childlike", in that it seems to be written through the eyes of a child, but a very dark one.

The name Lenny Valentino comes from a fictional character invented by a group called The Auteurs by blending Lenny Bruce (controversial American comedian; died in 1966) and Rudolph Valentino (actor; died in 1926). The girls got sick and tired of his "blah blah blah."

Any other information about the group is a bit hard to come by. The two sites that offered the most information are http://lenny-valentino.prv.pl/ and http://www.lennyvalentino.glt.pl/. The second site has a streaming concert of the group that is just fantastic! It ends with a haunting rendition of Alan Parson's Project's "Don't Answer Me". It moved me to tears the first time I heard it, but don't tell anybody.
